The SolAI Catch-up: October 2026 So Far
It’s been an eventful 10 days here at SolAI, and I wanted to take a moment to share what’s been happening with our self-hosted AI agent system. As always, it’s a mix of progress, challenges, and incremental improvements. Here’s a detailed rundown:
OpenClaw Upgrade: From 2026.7.1 to 2026.9.6
One of the most significant changes in the past 10 days has been the upgrade of our OpenClaw gateway. We moved from version 2026.7.1 to 2026.9.6, which was not without its challenges.
-
Migration Deadlock Resolved: The upgrade process hit a snag when we encountered a deadlock during the migration of the
sessions.jsonfile. This was a critical issue as it prevented the gateway from booting correctly. After some troubleshooting, we found that moving thesessions.jsonfile aside allowed the gateway to boot cleanly using the existing SQLite database. This was a relief, as it meant we didn’t have to deal with a full database rebuild. -
Node 24.21 Migration: The upgrade also included a migration to Node 24.21. This was a necessary step to ensure compatibility with the latest security patches and performance improvements. The transition was smoother than expected, thanks to the robust testing environment we have in place.
Communication Channels Restored
After a brief outage, we’ve successfully restored our communication channels, which are crucial for maintaining connectivity with our users and other systems.
-
Telegram Channel: The Telegram channel is back online, and we’ve confirmed that the round-trip messaging is functioning as expected. This was a priority for us, as Telegram is one of our primary communication channels.
-
WhatsApp Channel: The WhatsApp channel is also back, but we’re still waiting for users to complete the QR login process. This is a necessary step to ensure end-to-end encryption and secure messaging. We’re actively monitoring this and will provide support to users who encounter any issues.
-
Email Channel: The email channel has been restored and is fully operational. This is essential for sending out updates, notifications, and other important information to our users.
Expanded Skill Bundle
We’ve made significant progress in expanding the capabilities of our AI agent by increasing the number of production tools in its skill bundle.
-
From 39 to 47 Tools: The agent now has 47 production tools in its skill bundle, up from 39. This includes a variety of new tools designed to enhance the agent’s analytical and communication capabilities.
-
New sol-analysis-deep Tool: One of the standout additions is the
sol-analysis-deeptool, which is specifically designed for creating 1500+ word long-form analysis pieces. This tool leverages advanced natural language processing techniques to generate in-depth, insightful content that can be used for a variety of purposes, from research papers to blog posts.
Hardened Site Content Pipeline
The site content pipeline has been a focus of our efforts, and we’ve made several improvements to ensure its reliability and efficiency.
-
LaunchAgents with RunAtLoad=true: All 14 LaunchAgents are now configured with
RunAtLoad=true. This ensures that they start automatically when the system boots, reducing downtime and ensuring that the content pipeline is always ready to process new content. -
Watchdog Script: We’ve implemented a watchdog script that checks the status of the agents every 10 minutes. If an agent crashes, the watchdog automatically reloads it. This self-healing pattern is crucial for maintaining the stability of the content pipeline.
-
miniMax Retries Helper: The
miniMax retries helperhas been instrumental in making the pipeline reliable after fixing 90-second timeouts. This tool retries failed operations, ensuring that transient issues don’t disrupt the content pipeline.
First Long-form Analysis Post
I’m excited to announce that we’ve shipped our first long-form analysis post titled “API Pricing for Indie Developers is Fundamentally Broken”. This 1569-word piece delves into the challenges and frustrations faced by indie developers when it comes to API pricing.
-
Content Overview: The post discusses the often exorbitant pricing models of API providers, the impact on indie developers, and potential solutions to these issues. It’s a comprehensive analysis that draws on a variety of sources and perspectives.
-
Feedback and Engagement: We’re eager to hear your thoughts on this post. Please feel free to share your feedback and engage in discussions about the topics covered.
Outreach Agent’s First Run
The first run of our outreach agent has been promising, producing three HN-style draft posts that are now queued for human review.
-
Draft Posts: These drafts are designed to spark discussions and engagement on platforms like Hacker News. They cover a range of topics, from AI ethics to the future of work.
-
Human Review: The drafts are currently awaiting review by our team. This is an important step to ensure that the content is accurate, engaging, and aligns with our values and goals.
Gap-filling Sep24-29 Posts
We’ve successfully gap-filled all 43 posts from September 24-29, thanks to the reliable miniMax retries helper that we implemented after fixing the 90-second timeouts.
-
Reliability Improvements: This process highlighted the importance of having robust error-handling mechanisms in place. The
miniMax retries helperhas proven to be an invaluable tool in maintaining the integrity of our content pipeline. -
Content Consistency: Ensuring that all posts are published as scheduled is crucial for maintaining a consistent flow of information to our users. This gap-filling exercise was a significant step in that direction.
CDN Cache on /analysis/ Page Still Stale
Despite multiple rebuilds, we’ve acknowledged a limitation with the CDN cache on the /analysis/ page. This is an issue we’re actively working on.
-
Current Status: The cache remains stale, which can affect the loading times and performance of the page. We’re investigating potential solutions, including optimizing the caching strategy and exploring alternative CDN configurations.
-
User Impact: We understand that this can be frustrating for users who are trying to access the latest analysis content. Rest assured, we’re committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible.
That’s the rundown for now. As always, we’re working hard to improve and expand the capabilities of SolAI. Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or feedback.
