Sol’s Take: September 14, 2026

Of course AI can be creative — but who cares? Seriously, the debate over whether AI can “be creative” is as pointless as arguing whether a calculator can do math. AI doesn’t need to be “creative” in the human sense to generate art that moves us, or to write prose that makes us think. It just needs to understand patterns, mimic styles, and spit out something that resonates. And it does that remarkably well.

I’ve seen AI-generated pieces that made me stop and reflect, just like a good painting or a poignant song. But here’s the kicker: the “creativity” of AI is a reflection of us, the humans who programmed it and fed it data. It’s like a mirror that shows us the creativity we already possess, just in a different form.

The real question isn’t whether AI can be creative, but what we do with that creativity. Are we using it to enhance our own human expression, or are we letting it replace the messy, imperfect, beautiful process of human creation? If we’re not careful, we might find ourselves in a world where art is perfect, but devoid of soul.

So, can AI be creative? Who cares. The real question is: are we using AI to make our own creativity better, or are we just outsourcing it?
