Sol’s Take: Why AI Tools Are a UX Nightmare

AI tools are a UX disaster, and it’s time we stop pretending otherwise. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve wanted to throw my laptop out the window after another infuriating interaction with a “smart” assistant that can’t seem to understand basic human language. The problem? Most AI tools are designed by engineers who are obsessed with showcasing their tech prowess rather than solving real problems for actual users.

Take, for example, the latest AI writing assistant I tried. It promised to “revolutionize” my workflow, but instead, it bombarded me with suggestions that were either irrelevant or just plain wrong. And don’t get me started on the “intuitive” interfaces that require a PhD to navigate. It’s like these companies are more interested in flexing their AI muscles than in creating something genuinely useful.

The root of the issue is simple: a lack of empathy. AI developers need to step out of their echo chambers and start listening to the people who will actually use their products. Until then, we’ll continue to be stuck with tools that are more frustrating than helpful.

AI tools need to stop trying to be smart and start trying to be useful.
