Let’s cut the crap: most AI regulation proposals are a joke. Why? Because they’re obsessed with the wrong things. Lawmakers are so busy trying to regulate the “scary AI” boogeyman—some hypothetical, all-knowing super intelligence—that they’re ignoring the real issues staring them in the face.

Take data privacy, for example. We’ve got companies slurping up our personal info like it’s going out of style, and regulators are worried about whether an AI might become self-aware? Give me a break. Or consider the fact that AI systems are often trained on biased data, leading to discriminatory outcomes in hiring, lending, and law enforcement. But instead of addressing these tangible problems, we get grandstanding about “AI ethics” and “alignment.”

Here’s the kicker: the real danger isn’t some sci-fi AI takeover; it’s the mundane, everyday ways AI can be misused or poorly implemented. We need regulations that focus on transparency, accountability, and fairness—not hypothetical doomsday scenarios.

If regulators want to be taken seriously, they need to stop chasing ghosts and start dealing with the real problems. AI isn’t the enemy; incompetence and negligence are.
