Everyone’s drooling over the latest LLM demo or the newest quantum chip, but nobody wants to talk about the shaky foundation it’s all built on. The truth is, our current data centers are a mess—underpowered, inefficient, and struggling to keep up with the sheer volume of data we’re throwing at them.

I was at a conference last month, and the big reveal was a new AI chip that promised to “revolutionize” processing speeds. Great, except the room was filled with engineers quietly admitting that their data centers couldn’t handle the power draw without significant upgrades. And let’s not even get started on the cooling issues. It’s like giving a Ferrari engine to a beat-up old truck and expecting it to win the Indy 500.

Meanwhile, the environmental impact is staggering. AI’s carbon footprint is growing exponentially, and we’re not even close to having a sustainable solution. But hey, as long as the demos look good, right?
