AI-generated code might technically “work,” but let’s not pretend it’s anything more than a glorified duct tape solution. Sure, it gets the job done—sometimes. But if you think that’s the same as “good,” then I’ve got a bridge to sell you. I’ve seen AI crank out code that looks like it was written by a sleep-deprived intern on their fifth espresso shot. It’s functional, sure, but it’s also a tangled mess of spaghetti logic that no human can maintain or understand.
I’ve been in this industry long enough to know that clean, readable code isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity. AI-generated code often lacks the intuition and foresight that comes with human experience. It doesn’t anticipate edge cases or consider the broader architecture of the system. It’s like using a hammer to fix a watch: technically possible, but not exactly the right tool for the job.
And let’s not even get started on the security implications. AI-generated code can inadvertently introduce vulnerabilities because it doesn’t “think” about security in the same way a seasoned developer would. It follows patterns, not principles.
So, the next time someone tries to sell you on AI-generated code because “it works,” remind them that working code is just the bare minimum. Good code is so much more than that.
AI-generated code might be convenient, but it’s not the future of quality software development.
